What it actually takes to run your own node: less than you think.
In plain words
You don't need a server room. Almost any recent computer with an SSD can run a full node: a Raspberry Pi, a used mini-PC, an old laptop, or the machine you're using right now, quietly in the background. The SSD matters most — a spinning disk makes the first sync crawl. A 2-terabyte drive leaves years of room. Power use is lightbulb territory. Prefer zero setup? Plug-and-play node kits exist.
Why it matters
- Checking your own money costs a few hundred dollars, once.
- Low power means it can just run, always, unnoticed.
- Nodes staying cheap is a design goal — it keeps verification in everyone's reach.
Numbers that matter
- 2 TB — SSD size with comfortable headroom today.
- ~10–20 W — typical draw.
Not to be confused with
- ASIC miner — the loud, hot machine is for mining. Checking blocks needs neither.
