Satoshi Nakamoto is the made-up name used by whoever created Bitcoin. One person or several — nobody has ever proven who, and every unmasking headline so far has fallen apart. Satoshi built Bitcoin, ran it from 2008 to late 2010, handed the code to others, and vanished. Satoshi's own coins — about a million — have never moved. That exit matters: Bitcoin has no boss to pressure, subpoena, or worship.

Why it matters

• No founder means no single person to attack or corrupt.
• The untouched coins are standing proof the creator never cashed in.
• The identity doesn't matter by design — the rules don't care who wrote them.
